Yeah I’m back already.
So, I just went and read Crushed’s first blog. Not bad man, not bad.
Anyways, something in his post got me thinking, and it was that thing about what you think of FPS Games?
Honestly? Well, I’ve actually got a list of what I think of them, and some things that always turn up in some way… usually on the back of the gamebox.
“Amazing hi-def, never before seen environments” Basically, this means in ‘devtalk’, yep it’s got a lava level… but in high def and it looks really real!
There’s always some level in a FPS, that you’ll hate, which when you complete the game, you’ll then strive to either rush through or just skip it entirely just to avoid it. I’d say nearly every single single-player game is guilty of this. In the case of multiplayer, you’ll usually find that only a few, hardcore servers will have those maps on. Well, okay, the servers might have just started… alright, next bit.
“The sequel to the smash hit” Well, okay, this can usually mean nothing as for all we know, this sequel could be the successor to Super Turbo Pig Racer 9000. Actually that sounds quite cool.
“From the people who brought you…” Mick the tea boy was in the team who made the last one. Err, does that count?
Now, onto other stuff. The types of FPS Games.
The graphic massacre maniac- Oh c’mon, you know what I mean. The games that result in steam litereally appearing off your pc,and results in the graphics card going on fire.
The grey monsters- By this I mean the games that basically appear to have settings consisting of the colour grey,oh,and a bit of brown and occasionally blood. If it can stand the excitement. This seems to apply to a lot of games set in the future for some reason.
The revolutions-The ones that catch you off your cynical guard and make you go “woah, now that’s unique”. For example, Doom…… back when it first came out that is.
The copycats- Unfortunately a lot of games can be put in this group.
The oddballs- The games that are so crazy that you cant follow them with any logic. Killer7 is a fine example of this.
The ugly kids- Err, bad name I guess, but usually you get games that come out that, how can I put this nicely… don’t look attractive. That’s the nice way of putting it. The other way is this, “Hey, uhh, is it just me or does this game look like it was hit by a truck?”
The rest- which I’m too lazy to put here.
Laters folks
