That’s right, the crazy duo, fondly adored by many of us gamers of a more ‘mature’ standing, have finally been given the due recognition they deserve. David and Richard Darling have received a CBE for services to the UK games industry, as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Codemasters was started up in 1986 by David and Richard with a little help from their dad Jim. They saw their games such as Dizzy become wildly popular, with help from the ‘£1.99 ‘classics’ revolution that swept home computer gaming during the late 80’s.
“For over 20 years, David and Richard led Codemasters as it became one of the video game industry’s great British success stories,” company chief Rod Cousens told the a BBC reporter.
“Their drive and passion for creating the best in interactive entertainment will always be part of the industry’s heritage and this recognition is well deserved.”
Last year, the brothers sold their stake in Codemasters and are are now believed to be worth in excess of a whopping £100 million each!!
