Default Day of Defeat Going Orange

In a recent interview with Enemy Down, the lead programmer for Day of Defeat, Matt "Mugsy" Boone, spilled the beans on an upcoming update for Day of Defeat: Source.

The major points of the interview state that the game will be ported over to the Orange Box engine, and the update might come out in March. Given the whole issue with "Valve Time" we might see the update in late Spring or early Summer ... of 2009.

It will be on the orange box engine, it will contain cone of fire tweaks, leaning eye point fix and a few other improvements.

Other additions include the possibility of new maps being added, possible crosshair additions, and achievements for DoD: Source.

I could never really find myself captivated with this game from the off :[ I think the recoil is the major factor in this, just so hard to get used to

As my fave steam type game, for me, the recoil really is the only let down....

If only source had the recall and hitbox precision that dod had, then my god

I love two things about DoD...

    - The sounds of the guns.

    - The crosshair colour change in your options.

I think the guns sound really awesome on this game, often find myself just shooting a wall to listen to it xD :P

Also the crosshair colour/size change is awesome, I like having a pink crosshair :] They should definately get it onto Source >.<

I have to agree whole heartedly with you, although what was even better regarding the crosshairs was how easy it was to have your own custom ones

I have a really nifty bright green circle. It's sooooo small, yet because of the style and colour its visible against any background, its like having a green laser sight

Just thinking about it's satisfying lol

Well I managed to download myself a pink crosshair for CSS, but unfortunately Enemy Down and most other leagues have now prevented me or anyone else using it due to sv_pure 2 being implemented :[

A custom one like DOD would be insane

Yeah, I still don't see why they started to get so strict on things like crosshairs..... Still, its just a case of swapping folders for matches

The orange engine runs a lot more efficiently (or so they say), and havind DODS run on it will provide greater opportunity for improving hit box accuracy, cone of fire adjustments etc etc....

The link to the interview above has some good stuff in it, though for the best source of info keep your eye on the Steam news/forums

Think it's going to be a wait and see with this one... rumours were that DOD was going to be ported by March, and as it's May, there is still no sign...

    Looking forward to it though

The orange box update sadly broke the game more than it repaired it. Its to late for this game, dont think vavle will do anything to fix the remaining bugs.
