How to fix unmodified content error!
Yes, 2142 can be a right b*stard to wipe. This ongoing error is occuring oftenly with the latest 1.5 patch, which seems to be rather tricky with content and audio errors.
This is a complete wipe of everything, I suggest doing it step by step for a completely clean installation.
To delete the configuration files and local copy of your account:
Double click on My Documents.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2142 folder and choose Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):
* Go to My Computer -> C: -> Program Files -> EA GAMES
* Right-click on the Battlefield 2142 folder and select Delete.
* Now go to the following folder: C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (If you cannot find this folder you may have to enable Show Hidden Folders which can be found by going to Tools -> Folder Settings and selecting the View tab.)
* Right-click on the folder named {ED50ECE9-EC54-4C05-B5ED-EE4741A9F2EC} and choose Delete.
* Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2142:
* Click Start -> Run.
* Type regedit in the text field.
* Click File and then choose Export.
* Name the file backup.reg and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
* Click Save (this will have made a backup of your registry just incase you manage to **** it up); you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
* Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> EA GAMES
* Right-click on the Battlefield 2142 folder and choose Delete.
* Back under Software, click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
* Click the plus sign next to EA GAMES.
* Right-click on the Battlefield 2142 folder and choose Delete.
* Just above EA GAMES you will see a folder named EA CORE, click the plus sign next to EA CORE.
* Click the plus sign next to INSTALLED GAMES -> EA GAMES.
* Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2142 folders.
* Click the plus sign next to Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Uninstall.
* Right-click on the key named {ED50ECE9-EC54-4C05-B5ED-EE4741A9F2EC} and choose Delete.
* A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
* Close Registry Editor.
Battlefield 2142 is now completely removed from your system.
You will also need to uninstall EA Link should this be on the machine. Use the uninstaller to remove the product and then ensure the following two folders are not present:
* C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Local Settings\Application Data\Downloaded Installations\{14E1383C-C500-4942-8DA8-665B59BD12A9}
* C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Link
If they are then simply delete them.
Install Battlefield 2142 from the DVD and when finished DO NOT RUN THE GAME! Grab the Battlefield 2142 v1.25 Patch (unless you already have it of course) and install it.
When this is complete, you now need to ensure PunkBuster is functioning correctly. To do this you should completely remove it and reinstall it.
* Download pbsvc.exe - this is a utility which can be used to uninstall and reinstall the PunkBuster service.
* Open pbsvc.exe and select Un-Install/Remove PunkBuster Service.
* Open pbsvc.exe again and this time select Install/Re-Install PunkBuster Service.
* After installing, it will test your services. Make sure you get a Test completed successfully without error. message.
* Now download PBSETUP, which is a utility used to update PunkBuster to the latest version.
* Open pbsetup.exe. It will probably have to check for updates, allow it to do that.
* Click the Add a Game button at the top.
* Select Battlefield 2142 and make sure that the folder location is correct.
* Click the Check for Updates button at the top.
