Worth It?
I'm still not sure wether to buy this game or not, wondering what your thoughts are!
I would like something to do whilst not on CS:S, though I hear TF2 doesnt rally last very long and before long i'll be back on Source all the time...
Worth buying or not?

Re: Worth It?
TBH, and this is just my opinion, the game is really good.
Unlike CSS, where picking your kit doesn't really affect the game, making sure the whole team work together ensuring that there is a range of classes being used is the only way of winning.
No medics, or engineers mean you are going to lose quickly...
If possible, I'd either see if there is a demo you can try, or ask a mate who has it if you can give it a try - it's needs a few hours at playing the whole range of classes to decide if you will like it.
But my opinion, it's great - go get it!!

Re: Worth It?
I have to admit liking it, although I usually end up back on dod.. although that's just personal preference.
But what kbramman said is also true, its designed really well regarding how it makes you work together and create a balanced team.
It's worth buying, but its not one that will overtake your favourite to be the new game of the moment.,

Re: Worth It?
Team Fortress 2 has many different aspects to it than any other FPS game. One of the many features that TF2 delivers is the importance of teamwork. In public large CS:S servers, hardly any strategies or teamwork plans are laid out, just run out and shoot. If you want to win, be the last man standing. Over in TF2, team is in it's name. Everyone needs to work together, in choosing the appropriate number of classes, when and how to rush out and listening to others. You really need to do your part in engaging in other's parts for your side to succeed. The reason I - and I'd wager most people who love TF2 - love TF2 is because the emphasis is on the team over the individual.
One major difference between TF2 and CS:S/DOD:S is aiming. It's really easy for beginners to pick up this game and start playing. Anyone who's played TF2 and CS:S will tell you that this game is not so much about aiming. Someone who has first started playing CS:S will join a server and go 0-20. Now, has the majority of his game time been actually playing or waiting, watching someone else? That tends to be a little boring for a beginner, but TF2 is like the DeathMatch mod on CS:S. Depending on the server, the wait times are different.
It's the focus on the team that makes it fun. But not every class is entirely team-oriented. Snipers, Scouts and Spies - while they may make a legitimate and useful contribution to a team - are not exactly team players. They often are expected to work alone. It's just their class role. Other classes are entirely dependent on support and work with others, and rather than just running around really fast, are constantly in the thick of battle.
TF2 includes a variety of different classes (nine, if you will) that require different game styles. On CS:S, you're either T or CT. On DOD:S, they're all shooting some sort of gun. (I don't play DOD:S so I can't make many comparisons to it). here are nine classes, each of which is fundamentally different. Try all the classes, there are good odds you'll find one you like.
Often times players enjoy coming into a TF2 server with their primary goal of having good company with other players and earning achievements as their secondary objective. CS:S does not have their own set of achievements, but on TF2 it pushes you a little to play a certain class, to get the unlocks. That's what keeps you playing, like leveling up in a MMO.
I really do hope soon enough you'll purchase TF2, as it's totally worth it. I spent $9.99 during a holiday deal and glad I spent every penny. Bored of one map? Move on to a different game mode, as there are lots to enjoy.World Dominance Gaming

Re: Worth It?
Team Fortress 2 is definately worth it. I bought it around 1.5 years ago and have played it ever since. There are many public communities and competetive communities alike, and all players are looking to improve and make anyones gaming experience much better. TF2 can be played in many ways, the diversity of each class makes the game feel completely different depending on what class you are playing. Valve is also currently adding Class Packs to put sense of achievement into the game, along with Milestones to unlock new weapons - making your gaming experience even more fun!TF2 can also be played competetively, where teams fight for points very strategically. However, the competetive scene is still growing, but still has many leagues, tournaments and ladders, and more recently there has been some LANs.
I really hope you purchase TF2 as it IS a very fun game, both publically and competetively.
howdeh.

Re: Worth It?
This is exactly, what I have been asking myself for a long time! I have always wondered if it was worth the $20, but i have read many of the comments left for this topic and i have decided to buy TF2...and since I am going to buy it I want to thank the people that posted their comments in this topic! IT MAKES THE GAME SOUND SO MUCH FUN! And I could not risk not having it... and my friend (Heat) found out I was going to buy it soon so he messaged me and wanted TF2, also! So I decided to buy him the game also so that we can experience the TF2 game together
but its all because of you guys soo thank you! Well I hope its as fun as it sounds!!!

Re: Worth It?
Yeah, TF2 is definitely worth it. It has classes ranging from Scout to Spy, which all play very differently.
Spy is a fun class because you can cloak, disguise, and hide. Its perfect for people who want an adreniline rush.

Re: Worth It?
Good job man! You won't regret it.

I encourage everyone else who reads this thread to make this purchase! Or even wait till it goes on sale, it usually does. (50% off, which is when I got it - 2008 Christmas sale)
PS. I added you, so we can play together sometime.

Re: Worth It?
I had a GREAT time playing TF2 while I was playing it commutatively. It just seems that it's mostly casual and not constructed enough to have an amazing turnout at tournaments.
